Coming soon - Community Outreach in Victoria Falls

14 November 2018

We are very excited to be launching a new volunteer project just outside Africa's adventure capital, Victoria Falls!

Working alongside the Greenline Africa Trust, volunteers will support rural communities with livelihood development, water aid, education and healthcare projects.

The project will be launched in December 2018, but in the meantime, here are some answers to some questions that you might have!

Where will I be based?

Volunteers are based in a comfortable volunteer house approximately 25km from Victoria Falls town. You will live in the heart of the Dibutibu rural community, at the Volunteer Training Centre, which Greenline have established to assist with upskilling the local community.

There will be plenty of time to visit Victoria Falls town and explore the Rainforest National Park, home to the majestic Victoria Falls.

What will I be doing?

Greenline Africa have been working with vulnerable communities in the area since 2013 and volunteers will work alongside the Trust staff, to deliver projects focused on income generation and skills training. This could include things like:

  • Homestead food intervention programmes
  • School feeding projects
  • Adult education, training and skills development
  • Community agriculture projects supporting local farmers
  • Community pre-school ECD programmes in three local schools
  • Community conservation

When can I arrive?

The project is open year-round, including the Christmas holidays, and can be flexible on arrivals and departures. Return transfers from Victoria Falls airport or the town itself, are included.

How long can I stay

We suggest you aim to stay 3-4 weeks, to really immerse yourself in the projects the Trust are involved with. However, stays of a week or more are welcome.

Who can volunteer?

The project is perfect for solo travellers, groups and families. There are no specific skills required, but a can-do, flexible and positive attitude is essential!

The project are keen to work with those who have specific skills in areas such as beekeeping, organic gardening or horticulture, sewing or embroidery, teaching, medicine or pharmacology, and building. Skilled volunteers can be put to great use on specific projects.

Families will usually be accommodated as an individual group, to ensure that specific activities and timings can be adhered to. We suggest that the minimum age for children is nine years, but if you have younger children, please do still enquire!

How much does it cost?

Project pricing is as follows:

1 week: $850
2 weeks: $1,650
3 weeks: $2,450
4 weeks: $3,250

Additional weeks are priced at $800 per week.

Children aged under 12 are priced at $700 per week.

Where does my money go?

85% of your project fee is a donation made directly to the Greenline Africa Trust, a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation in Zimbabwe. All the funds are used to ensure the continuation of long-term building, education, food security and community projects, plus their support staff.
