Meet dedicated teachers and inspirational children. Combine literacy teaching with conservation education and sports coaching on one of our teaching and education programmes.
Teaching abroad is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture and community of rural and impoverished schools. Influence the future of African children as you improve their chances of a good education.
Volunteers will meet dedicated, hard-working teachers and inspirational children who are desperate to learn. Literacy programmes revolve around teaching English to children who may struggle with exam questions because of a lack of primary education. Volunteers will also teach children about the importance of wildlife conservation and how to help protect the environment.
Rural African schools are often understaffed, under-resourced and overcrowded and children commonly receive little or no individual attention. Outside the major cities, there is a lack of qualified teachers and in many rural schools, school-leavers or partially qualified teaching staff teach classes of children only slightly younger than themselves. Volunteer teaching abroad can be very beneficial for schools, both to help teachers in lesson planning and give children extra support outside of class.
However, teaching volunteers who come to assist on our teaching programmes are not replacements for teachers and neither are they there just to relieve the teachers’ workload. Everyone in the first world is lucky enough to have been to school (although it may not have felt lucky at the time!); volunteer enthusiasm and overseas school experience can be a big motivation for local teachers who can learn new ideas to excite children and improve their learning.
